The cover and tracklist for Melon Kinenbi’s final tour DVD titled Melon Kinenbi FINAL STAGE MELON’S NOT DEAD have been released on the official Melon Kinenbi blog.

The cover seems to be a collage of pictures from their performance in black and white with the words “Melon’s not dead” in punk type letters under a skull with a heart, and I have to admit that I like it very much since it looks like a great final DVD cover with the pictures in black and white (most likely to symbolize past memories) as well as the hard rock feeling of the letters.

As for the tracklist it seems to be full with Melon Kinenbi performances as well as bonus features which include two “Final Tour Ver” of Skip! and Pinch wa Chance Baka ni Narouze!, which is great since fans will get a lot of content for Melon’s last concert DVD.

Overall the cover and the tracklist are both incredible since it seems like it is full of great content for fans, so hopefully all Melon Kinenbi fans can buy a copy to support them since this will most likely be among their last DVDs.

The release date is set for 7/14.

– 2/19 SHIBUYA-AX Live
– 「ALWAYS LOVE YOU」 Music Video
– Bonus Features

The cover and tracklist for Melon Kinenbi’s last album titled URA MELON have been released.

For the most part the tracklist isn’t that surprising since it is basically all of the c/w’s from their singles, but the surprising additions are the videos that are included in the DVD.

Among the two announced DVD tracks we can see that they will release their 2/19 SHIBUYA-AX Live (apparently the entire live, although it may only be a few performances), the music video for ALWAYS LOVE YOU which is the collaborative track between Melon Kinenbi and Beat Crusaders and also other bonus features.

The cover on the other hand really surprised me since they used somewhat of a unique 4 color pop art theme for pictures of every girl in a 4 by 4 grid, and for the most part it looks interesting especially with the stencil letters on the title.

Hopefully fans buy their last album since it looks like it will be a great collectors item for fans since it features the c/w’s to all of their singles and many other DVD bonus features.

The release date is set for 4/21.

Melon Kinenbi Coupling Best Album “URA MELON” Announced

2 03 2010

A coupling best album from Melon Kinenbi titled URA MELON has been announced. The album will include all the coupling songs of the 17 major singles and a DVD with live performances and a couple of PVs, including a PV for their song Always Love You from their last album.

It’s great news that we are getting a coupling best album for Melon Kinenbi with a PV and a live since it is a great last gift to fans before they disband some 2 weeks after the release.

The tracklist hasn’t been released but it will probably include all of their coupling songs so fans of Melon Kinenbi while they were in H!P will probably like this album, especially with the amount of tracks that will be included (probably about 19).

Hopefully all Melon Kinenbi fans get a chance to buy the album and support them with their last release.

The release date is set for 4/21.

Melon Kinenbi To Disband

19 02 2010

Melon Kinenbi have announced that they will disband after their Spring concert tour.

H!O has translated the announcements (Credit to epifanes for the translation)

News on the important matter regarding Melon Kinenbi

As always, thank you for supporting Melon Kinenbi.

Today, during the stage of Melon Kinenbi’s 10th ANNIVERSARY LIVE ‘3654 days since birth’ which was held at SHIBUYA-AX’, the members announced that Melon Kinenbi is going to disband.

Keeping their idol status for 10 years, the members gave their united statement, “We would like to end Melon Kinenbi’s activity at this 10-year milestone”, and after numerous discussions and assistance from the staff, it was decided we would be announcing it publicly today.

This March’s stage performance, “Melon Kinenbi Story” (12 performances at the Ikebukuro Theater Green, all tickets SOLD OUT) and the final tour in April~May are the group’s final activities until official disbanding.

Furthermore, February 21st (Sunday) the Osaka performances which were planned (Nanba HATCH noon performance 15:00 START/night performance 19:00 START) will be held without any changes.

Please keep supporting them until the end.

Comment from members

Thank you, as always, for your warm support!

On February 19th, 2010, we’ve reached Melon Kinenbi’s 10-year anniversary of existence!!
The Melon road had both mountains and valleys to cross, but together with our wotamodachi [wotamodachi = wota (fan)+tomodachi (friend)], the staff, and our families who have supported us during good times and bad, we were able to build up a 10-year history. And all that without a member change!!

Before we reached the 10-year point, the four of us talked thoroughly about the future. The result was, “10 years is a good turning point, where we should get new challenges in our real life”, so we firmly decided to disband the group.

We think that there will people who will be shocked, thinking, “Oh no, so it’s really happened now…” , but we promise we will keep running in Melon-style until the very end. Everyone! Please keep running with us with all your energy!!

Source: Hello! Online

To be honest I’m surprised to see them celebrate their 10th anniversary, but I’m glad they managed to be one of the most stable groups H!P has ever had since they had no lineup changes from their beginning right until their end 10 years later.

The future of the four members of Melon Kinenbi (Saito Hitomi, Murata Megumi, Ohtani Masae, and Shibata Ayumi) is somewhat uncertain but hopefully we find out soon what they will do.

I wish the best of luck for the 4 members with their future careers whether in the music industry or in any other.

Melon Kinenbi will disband on 5/3, after their Nakano Sun Plaza performance which starts at 19:00 (JST).

Melon Kinenbi – “sweet suicide summer story” PV Released

19 02 2010

The PV for Melon Kinenbi’s 3rd collaborative single titled sweet suicide summer story has finally been released.

I have no idea why their PV was released so late but I’m glad to finally see a non-live PV. To be honest I’m somewhat confused about the PV since it seems to be completely random with the members playing the instruments (similar to Buono) and singing calmly to the camera.

The start of the PV features Melon Kinenbi appearing alongside a pixelated Midori after which they start playing instruments with Ayumi at the piano, Megumi on bass, Ootani on drums and Saito on guitar.

The PV mainly consists of many interesting shots such as a shot of them standing around a revolving camera, dancing in front of a camera, and close-ups of them looking bored.

I have to admit that it was a great PV and even though I don’t like the song that much I did find the shots interesting and I managed to watch the entire PV many times (I was distracted by Saito many times who reminded me of Biyuuden for some reason).

Overall the PV was great, there were many shots and Melon Kinenbi showed us how much fun they have performing. The PV is included in the album release so fans who buy the album should have the PV as well.

The single was released on 8/12/2009.

H!P Releases February 17

18 02 2010

Three releases today, C-ute’s latest concert DVD, Mano Erina’s DVD for her Koisuru Hello Kitty play and Melon Kinenbi’s 1st album since graduating from H!P:

C-ute – Cutie Circuit ~Five~: C-ute’s latest concert DVD which is featured outdoors, similar to Morning Musume’s Yomiuri LAND DVD.

I haven’t had a chance to see the concert completely but I did see some performances and I really like what I have seen so far. Since the concert is long I will only review one performance:

C-ute – Wakkyanai (Z) (Cutie Circuit Live)

Video uploaded by: marioshingai

Before today I had never seen this song performed so I was glad to find out that this was among my favorites because of the energy C-ute showed as they performed.

Maimi smiles throughout the performance which is a great thing to see since she seems to be enjoying performing in front of all of the fans. The costumes for the song are obviously just the t-shirts for each of the members, but they are a great addition since they mix in well with the upbeat sound.

Overall the DVD is a must have for C-ute fans since it is one of the few live performances they have done outside, and even though the concert is somewhat short it’s still an incredible concert.

Mano Erina – Koisuru Hello Kitty: DVD release for the play Mano Erina was with S/mileage members about a girl who helps others as Hello Kitty.

Not many previews have been released but here is a video which is included in the DVD which should give you a good idea of what happened during the play since it basically shows the staff for the play rehearsing, performing and having fun:

Koisuru Hello Kitty Backstage

Video uploaded by: youkahren02

In the backstage video we can see most of the staff practicing their lines and dances and it also has some previews of the cast on stage before the play starts where we get to see Mano crying and the cast of the play posing for pictures.

The video also shows us the end of play where they all perform a musical number and after Mano thanks everyone for coming.

Upon seeing the video I was surprised since I was expecting them to at least perform on a wider stage since they perform in a circle which is in the center of the room.

Despite that I liked what I see and it seems that the cast had a great time performing for everyone. I would recommend this DVD for all Mano fans since it is a great opportunity to see her act, and also to all S/mileage fans since they do an incredible job as well.

Melon Kinenbi – MELON’S NOT DEAD: Melon Kinenbi’s first album since graduating from H!P which features all of their collaboration singles plus some new songs.

Since the album features many songs, both new and already released I will only review a couple, so first:

Melon Kinenbi – Ai da! Ima Sugu ROCK ON!

The song is incredibly upbeat and it features all of the members singing along to a rock instrumental with happy lyrics. I have to admit that I was impressed with how well it came out since the melody and rhythm of the song are both catchy.

This song is definitely among my favorites for the album since it is a nice reminder of their new rock image which is both hard but still upbeat.

Melon Kinenbi – Romantic wo Tsukinukero~Break it now~

Videos uploaded by: stumbling

Compared to the previous song this one is somewhat more calm but it still has their great rock sound. This one is also among my favorites since it has somewhat of a Jpop sound to the lyrics combined with drums, guitar and basically a great sound.

Overall the album is a great addition to any Melon Kinenbi fan since it features many great songs with their new rock sound, I definitely recommend it to all H!P fans as well who like rock since the songs are very impressive.

The next release date is 2/20 with Buono’s Winter Fiesta concert tour PB.

Melon Kinenbi – “MELON’S NOT DEAD” Previews Released

24 01 2010

Two song previews for Melon Kinenbi’s upcoming album titled MELON’S NOT DEAD have been released.

The first is a preview of the 2nd collaboration song performed with BEAT CRUSADERS, and like the 1st song performed with them they do perform some backing vocals, but for the most part it is only Melon Kinenbi.

I have to admit that I liked this song after listening to it a few times, since it has a catchy rock rhythm mixed in with great vocals. It is kind of hard to describe the song well so you will have to listen to it for yourself to see how great it sounds.

Melon Kinenbi – Romantic wo Tsukinukero~Break it now~

Videos uploaded by: stumbling

This song has a great beat mixed in with an impressing rock sound. The vocals are clean and basically impressing while everybody gets a chance to sing, which is why I’m glad to say that this is my favorite song from the album so far.

Melon Kinenbi’s new rock image managed to turn out incredibly well since so far we have two great new songs with both impressing vocals and instrumentals.

Hopefully the album sells well so we have a chance to see them release some more great rock singles in the near future.

The release date is set for 2/17.

Melon Kinenbi – “MELON’S NOT DEAD” Cover Released

14 01 2010

The cover for Melon Kinenbi’s next album titled MELON’S NOT DEAD has been released.

Immediately you can notice that the cover is extremely colorful since it has somewhat of a psychedelic garden theme where all of the members of Melon Kinenbi are just hanging around.

Ayumi is the only one looking at the camera smiling since it looks like Hitomi is too busy checking something out on the left while Megumi is looking at Ohtani fix her glasses, and it also seems that they are wearing the same themed dresses but with different coats.

Overall the cover looks impressing, and even though it seems to be just a bit colorful (just a bit) the theme is most likely going to play in their favor since their album is hard to not notice.

The release date is set for 2/17.

The tracklist for Melon Kinenbi’s album titled MELON’S NOT DEAD has been released. This is the full setlist released by on Melon Kinenbi’s site.

The tracklist is bumped up to 10 tracks instead of the original 8, with 4 new tracks (the rock ver of Melon Kinenbi no Theme and the album version of their collaboration with NEW ROTEKA are new versions of already released songs) which sound like a great addition.

And among the three newly announced songs (not counting the other two that were already announced) there is ALWAYS LOVE YOU, a 2nd collaboration song between Melon Kinenbi and BEAT CRUSADERS, which was somewhat surprising since it is the only other song Melon Kinenbi did with one of the 5 bands.

The DVD will include all of the PV’s which was already expected since they are adding all of the collaboration tracks on as well, although the promise of “bonus features” seems promising.

Overall this looks like a great way to own all 5 of their collaboration singles along with their respective PVs, plus 5 new tracks and some bonus features, so hopefully the sales are high when it is released.

The release date is set for 2/17.
